Kyle Hedstrom Named Connecticut Section PGA Public Merchandiser of the Year

ROCKY HILL, Conn. – Kyle Hedstrom, head PGA Professional at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain, Conn., has been selected by the Connecticut Section PGA as the recipient of the 2011 Public Merchandiser of the Year award. The Merchandiser of the Year Award recognizes excellence in business and merchandising at private, public and resort golf facilities.

Hedstrom, 36, a nine-year member of The PGA of America, has been overseeing the golf operations at Stanley Golf Course since 2004. Prior to that, he was an assistant PGA Professional at Shuttle Meadow Country Club, and an apprentice during his time at Ellington Ridge Country Club and Black Hall Club.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by your peers as to having one of the nicer golf shops and I was fortunate enough to win the award previously in 2005 as well,” says Hedstrom. “For people to recognize that you have a consistent golf shop merchandising operation within the last six years means a lot.”

Hedstrom was also honored as a five-time member of the PGA President’s Council on Growing the Game. He is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a major in Business and now resides in Wethersfield with wife, Leanne, seven-year-old son, Jack, and three-year-old daughter, Kayla.

About the Connecticut Section PGA

The Connecticut Section PGA is a not-for-profit organization chartered by the PGA in 1933 to promote golf and enhance the livelihood of its members. The section is comprised of more than 350 men and women PGA Professionals from Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, the experts in the game and business of golf.

HARTFORD ADVOCATE - STANLEY GOLF COURSE
VOTED BEST IN 2011 BY HARTFORD READERS' POLL

1) Stanley Golf Course 245 Hartford Road
New Britain
(860) 827-1362It may be 81 years old, but it’s got state-of-the-art GPS systems on its golf carts, 27 holes, ultra-modern practice facilities and a 19-bay driving range with heaters and lighting. But Kyle Hedstrom, Stanley’s head golf professional, says the reason the course was voted best in the region this year is the top-notch condition of the course: "Even though the economy is down, we’re not letting our course conditions or customer service slip."

NEW BRITAIN PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
April 20, 2011

NEWS RELEASE

Mayor Timothy T. Stewart and Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman Jamie Giantonio announced today that Stanley Golf Course was voted “Best Golf Course” in the Advocate’s Best of Hartford Readers’ Poll 2011. The Hartford Advocate polled their readers in search of the best of the best and this year received a bigger response than ever before. Voted number one by over one hundred thousand Hartford Advocate readers, Stanley Golf Course proves to be the best of the best.

“This is another piece of the puzzle that makes Stanley a total championship golf course” said Mayor Stewart. “I am so proud of Stanley in being recognized throughout Connecticut as the best golf course.”

Stanley Golf Course located at 245 Hartford Road, New Britain is a beautiful 27 hole public golf course with a nineteen station, covered, heated and lighted driving range. The golf course has a fleet of 87 new 2011 state-of-the art Precedent Excel golf carts that promises to enhance the golfer’s experience. Stanley Golf Course is home to an award winning Pro Shop and home to the fine dining and drinking venue of Whinstone Tavern.

“This honor validates what the golfers have been telling us for years” said Bill DeMaio, Director of Parks and Recreation. “All golfers should try Stanley, the “Best Golf Course”, for the ultimate golfing experience.”

Red Nine

Red Nine Redesign Status

The Red 9 is now closed for an extensive design makeover. We think its new topography will be challenging yet fair for all golfing abilities with water hazards, elevated greens, doglegs and well placed bunkers to test your shot making skills while at the same time providing you with a pleasurable and fun experience.

During the golf course re-construction, our white and blue courses will be fully operational and open for play. Ground clearing is now underway for the redesigned Red 9. We need to see what progress is being made in the next few months to better determine when the redesigned Red 9 will open for play.

You can view the new Red 9 layout right here. We are definitely excited about its new design and we are looking forward to playing on it, as we hope you will be too, when it reopens. We will be posting periodic updates along with photos of the redesigned nine while work is in progress. So please do check back periodically.

Below are snapshots of the redesign construction work (listed in date order - most recent 1st).

Stanley Golf Course has 27 beautiful and challenging holes.  Our schedule of 13 tournaments is played on Saturday’s with tee times beginning at 9:30 A.M. for most events.  Tournament sign-up begins approximately 2 weeks prior to each specific event.

Our Vice-President/Tournament Director or designee will email the date of each event with its format and description and will advise members of any specific details regarding the event.
Annual Membership Dues is $90.00 for all members.  This covers the costs for prize money, club administration fees & a Connecticut State Golf Assoc. GHIN handicap. Our Member-Member/Member-Guest Tournament requires an additional fee to cover the cost of post-tournament refreshments.

A GHIN handicap is required for tournament play to be eligible for net prizes.  For new members without handicaps, a handicap can be established by posting on the GHIN handicap system five 18-hole scores (or equivalent in 9-hole scores).  The handicap chairperson or pro shop can assist new members in posting scores.

Membership in the Stanley Women's Golf Club enables you to join SNEWGA (Southern New England Women's Golf Association).  SNEWGA provides our members additional opportunities to play golf at many public and private courses throughout Connecticut.  SNEWGA Membership is an additional $15 per year.  If interested, submit your fee along with your SWGC application.

The first violation for not posting an 18 hole score is a written warning after we post your score.  The second violation for not posting an 18 hole score is a penalty score of 72.  The third violation for not posting an 18 hole score is a penalty score of 72 and a manual reduction of your handicap index for a period of three handicap adjustment revisions (45 days).  A fourth violation for not posting an 18 hole score will be membership suspension until you meet with the Board of Directors on a set date within 45 days after the violation date on why you are not posting your scores.

Scoring Differentials
If competitive scores are abnormally lower than noncompetitive scores a manual reduction of your handicap index will be administered by the Stanley Men’s Golf Clubs Handicap Chairman / Committee for a period up to four handicap adjustment revision dates.  Any reduction of your handicap index by the Stanley Men’s Golf Club will be reflected by a letter “M” following your index.  At each handicap revision the most recent twenty scores as calculated are weighed against the average of the two best Tournament score differentials, and if the difference of both Tournament score differentials is at least three strokes lower than the Handicap Index (as calculated from the most recent 20 scores), a reduction by the CSGA will be administered reflected by the letter “R” following your index.
